a poetic reinterpretation
There is an ease that falls
upon us when at long last
we can simply be ourselves
with one another,
no loner concerned with
pretense or posture or
proving our worth.
The space between us
shimmers with the sacred--
not sacred like stuffed-shirt formality,
but sacred like laughter,
holy like weeping together,
sacred like sitting in silence,
no need to cram
words between us.
I can see now,
after all these years,
this sacred space is
God between us.
