a poetic reinterpretation

God’s presence is in the steadying breath
never farther than a breath away.
Last night the earth below me cracked
no pleasant hills stand still
when you make them snap
Last night the earth below me groaned
no silent night quiets stones
when you call them to cry
God’s presence is in the steadying breath
though everything comes to nothing
laughter, ashes
anger, ashes
hope, ashes
life, ashes
I cannot pause the river’s flow
it makes its own way–
the river’s source is you
river’s end is also you
a breath away, your presence
Be still and know
a breath withheld
your presence
still
I know
the river flows
